With the increasing use of technology and the need to type on the new state tests (PARCC), we have already begun to work on our skills at school. Unfortunately, we cannot dedicate the full amount of time to typing that the students may need in order to become successful typists. Therefore, here is the information you need for home use of the program Type to Learn 4. The students are familiar with this program and used it last year. Due to updates, the program restarted, which is the perfect opportunity to ensure correct finger placement instead of the "find and peck" method.
Being a STEM school, we are always looking for ways to help your child through the use of technology. You can always find great websites on our KIDS CORNER page, but we also have many other things available to you and your child that we use at school. Check out the links below!
We are off to a fantastic start this week. We have a class full of role models and quick starters. I think we can really count on our little friends to keep up with the expectations of 2nd grade. We are starting to learn our SPARK behavior for all areas of the school. We have always had S-safe, P-patient, A-attentive, R- responsible, and K-kind, but now we are getting a little more explicit with different areas of the building. Please look at the chart below :)
8/19 - 7:00 pm Board of Education meeting at Summit High School Performing Arts Center
8/20 - Market Day Pick-up at 5:30 pm

8/29 - School Pictures
9/8 - PTO Meeting at 6:30 in our Library Museum
What a fabulous start to the school year! The first 2 "first" days and our second day were filled with fun and getting to know each other. We have begun learning the expectations of 2nd grade and practicing routines. The next few weeks we will continue learning our routines. Once these are set, we can get into our material more in depth.
This week, we will be observing the wetlands, beginning our Learning Links, looking at characters in our books, beginning our Daily 5 routines, taking our first STAR assessments, and practicing our math fact program. If you haven't had the opportunity to look at the "Parent Mastering Math Fact Explanation" sheet sent home at Meet the Teacher, please do so. Here is a digital copy of it for your convenience. It is very important that the students practice the program correctly.
The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.
Me, Me, Me
I enjoy problem solving, designing, creating, communicating, collaborating, etc.... all of which I expect my students to do. I hope that we have an enjoyable and successful year!
