How long is Mrs. Luzny's hair?
We will be collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. We will weigh all our tabs together at the end of the time.
Week of Dec. 1st-5th
Guess how long Mrs. Luzny's hair is. Each student will get a voting card. They will need to print their name and their guess. K-2 will guess in inches and 3-4 in cms. We will measure her hair at Morning Meeting on Monday, Dec. 8th. Grade level winners will get to eat lunch with Mrs. Drury during the week of Dec. 17, 18, or 19.
Week of Dec. 15-18th
Collect monetary donations for Ronald McDonald House. Students that donate $1 or more will be entered in the raffle to win a mystery box. The box will be shown to them on Friday, December 12th at Morning Meeting. They will not know what is inside but I know there are some very cool things inside! We will draw the names on Friday, Dec. 19th at Morning Meeting.
On Wednesday, Dec. 17th, Mrs. Luzny will have her hair cut at Morning Meeting to donate for cancer wigs.
Help Needed
After the first of the year, I would also like to welcome in any volunteers that have a consistent schedule (once a week, once every 2 weeks, etc.). Please email me if you have a day/time that you would like to come in and help.
Volunteers are always welcome in our room. If you do not have a regular schedule to come in, but find a day that you can join us, please don't hesitate to contact me. If I don't have something specific you can help with, you can always join in the activities and help to monitor the students.
Classroom Happenings
We were privileged to welcome our friend Mr. Joe Bolzenius, a civil engineer, to our class once again. Joe has been visiting us for 4 years now to share the process of a developing community. His insight and knowledge is critical for the students to understand how empty land can become a city through the years. We thank him again for joining us!
Morning Routine
Last month I gave you insight on our math routine and now I would like to give you an idea of how our morning starts and runs with our routine. When the students enter the building in the morning, they go straight to the gym. There they sit silently and read a book until the bell rings. When Mrs. Drury enters the gym, we welcome her and stand for The Pledge of Allegiance. The meeting then progresses with announcements, jokes, AR awards, birthdays, hat tips, a movement boost, and the Core Value Pledge. When we leave the gym, we pick up our breakfast and head to our room. Once we enter the classroom, the students are responsible for moving their name tag on the breakfast/lunch chart. This easily counts our numbers and shows who is absent. The students then unpack their bag, hang their items in their cubbies, and copy their agenda while they eat breakfast. The agenda and brain boost are always posted on the screen side-by-side so when breakfast and the agenda are complete, they can begin their brain boost. | Here is last week's Agenda and Brain Boost. |
