Friday, we had Chinese and the students really enjoyed hearing some new words. If you'd like to, please show the following links to your child as a great way to review some of the phrases/words they practiced.

We also worked on the word compassion and the students designed and built a model of a real-world playground structure that represents compassion. I will be posting some pictures on our webpage. Remember the link is below my name at the bottom of this email.
Next week, we will continue to work on our routines of for reading and math. We are able to read for longer periods of time each day, increasing our overall stamina to 10 minutes! In reading we are still working on looking at the characters in a book and looking at how they respond to challenges. We are also working on answering and asking questions-who, what, when, where, why, and how. We will look at the beginning, middle, and ending of a book. We will also go over adjectives. Students will be making a picture of themselves and labeling their poster with adjectives that describe themselves.
In math we are still working on place value and expanded form, base ten form, and word form. We are going to start looking at numbers and mentally adding or subtracting 10 or 100. For example ten less than 220 is 210, 100 less would be 120, 10 more is 230, and 100 more is 320. In math we have started a math journal and number talks. Number talks really has us looking at different methods/strategies we can use to solve problems.
This week we will continue our STEMfest activities as well by focusing on Curiosity. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
