Monday - We will meet our High School Intern Miss Jessika! She will be helping us from 10-11 every day for our fusion block!
Tuesday - We will try to have a "Trashless Tuesday" lunch period. We will have brainstormed in class different ways to reduce our lunch trash and you can brainstorm with your child and decide specific changes s/he can make. Tuesday is also Citizenship or Constitution Day so we will be learning a little bit about our Constitution!
Thursday - We will have a practice fire drill in the morning.
Friday - Each grade level will participate in a 30 minute walk as a kick-off for the evening's events of the 3K Fun Run! 2nd grade goes at 9:00. You are more than welcome to join us at that time!
This week, we are also beginning a 30 minute literacy block for enrichment and intervention. We have organized all the second graders into different skill groups among 9 different teachers. We hope that doing this 4 days a week will greatly benefit all students. Every 6 weeks, we will reevaluate the students/groups to determine if movement needs to take place. If you would like more information, please email me at [email protected].
Now that routines are beginning to become habit in our regular room, we are progressing with all the daily 5 routines (read to self, read to someone, word work, work on writing, and listen to reading). We are working on asking questions and giving answers in complete sentences. We are looking at characters to see how they respond to different situations. We are learning different word activities that we will be able to continue and complete on our own as well. With math, we are working on telling time, counting coins, and skip counting this week. We will continue to work through sessions from Unit 1 of our Investigations Math books.
I am trying to decide on the best placement for our Mastering Math Facts routine into our day. I love this program and want to fit it in, but we have not been able to work on it for a week. I hope we can fit it in this week or I will need to revamp how I want math facts to be learned. Continue to practice either the writing numerals or facts set that your child has brought home.
You should be receiving a letter home this week about interim reports. This year will be the first year that you will need to log on to PowerSchool to look at your own child's progress. The letter will notify you of how to do this. Report cards will still be sent home in a paper form.
