Compassion Design Challenge {8/28/15}
What does a compassionate STEM student look like? How can we show compassion on the playground? Students created playground structures that showed compassion. Some were symbols of compassion and others were based on the idea of a "buddy bench" where kids go when they are looking for friends to play with.

Odds and Evens {8/31/15} |
In our class, decisions need to be made quickly all the time! We like to use a game called Odds and Evens. The 2 students decide which person will be odd and which will be even. Then they secretly put up any number of fingers behind their back on one hand. At the count of 3, both students reveal their fingers and add the 2 hands together. The last step is to determine if that number is odd or even and the person that matches it is the winner!
Design Cycle Puzzles {8/21/15}
We worked on remembering the Design Cycle by working in groups to put the steps in order. Most of the groups got it right, but even the ones that didn't have it perfect, explained their thinking and reasoning for the order. There were great conversations!

Marshmallow Design Challenge {8/17/15 and 8/18/15}
Second grade is filled with problems to solve and challenges. Working on this Design Challenge day 1 was difficult for many of the students, but they put on their thinking caps and tried their hardest!
