Chinese on Friday went very well and I was pleased with how much the students remembered from the prior week. Here are two links to help students review what we have learned in class.
1. Review the polite/respectful words:

This past Friday we did our curiosity design challenge, and made a mighty machine out of pencils and rubber bands. We talked about the rover called "Curiosity". The students also worked with a partner to document the process of creating the machine. These kids are amazing!
This week we are going to be starting our fusion unit on communities. We are looking at problems that exist now in our Reynoldsburg community and how we can use the design cycle to solve these problems. This week we are inviting in Officer Fulton to come speak to our students. She is going to pose a problem to our students and our students are going to use the design cycle to think of ways to solve the problem.
In reading we are still working on identifying characters in a story and looking at how they respond/change to an event or challenge. We are also practicing asking who, what, when, where, why, and how questions. We are looking at what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of a story. We will still be working on nouns and adjectives and introducing verbs. We are going to be talking about how we create a complete sentence. We are also going to review long and short vowels. We will still be practicing Reading Rotations with working on “work on writing” and “word work.”
In math, we are still working on place value, 10 more, 10 less, 100 more, and 100 less of a number. We learned a song and dance today to help with adding 10/subtracting 10 on a hundreds chart. You can watch it here with your child:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcaFOeQCTG0&feature=youtu.be We will start working on comparing numbers and using the alligator mouth >-greater than < -less than. We will work on “the alligator mouth always eats the bigger number.” I also teach them that when we have our hands out and thumbs pointing towards each other, the one that makes an “L” is the less than sign. We will start talking about addition strategies and will practice this with number talks and our math journal.
*We just found out that we do have the opportunity for students to participate in AR this year. Students can take an AR test after they have read a book. They got to practice this in the library. Students can't take AR tests at home. Students can take AR tests during morning time and daily 5 time.
*Please make sure to send in head phones!*
