This week has been interesting. We started out pleasant yesterday and then today, the students were extremely chatty and most were having problems staying on task. I am not sure of the cause, but please mention to your child that the expectations remain intact no matter what the day is like or if we go off routine/schedule.
Tomorrow is the field trip to SWACO, so please remember to pack a lunch for your child. We will eat at school, but we will probably be back after our normal lunch time. They need to wear comfortable clothes and safe shoes. We will remain on the bus and will not get dirty, but we should have exciting things to share when we return.
Thursday, we will be looking at "landfill in a bottle" and creating some to monitor in the classroom. If you have soil (non-chemical, pesticide, etc.), would you consider sending some in? We need it for this activity and for Friday. We would also appreciate 2-liter bottles for this activity.
Friday may be a messy day, so please send your child in play clothes that can get a little dirty. We will be deconstructing our worm compost bin from last year and then rebuilding it together. This involves, worms, castings, soil, water, newspaper... It can get sloppy :) If you have any newspaper to send in, we need a lot! We need 5-8 pounds per classroom, so about 40 pounds! Please send it in with your child and we will add it to the fabulous pile we already have started!
Unfortunately, the Brain Boost and Agenda is not available for you yet. It is not completed due to the slow computer and I will try to finish it and post it before the week is up. I think it helps to see the homework expected for the week and the brain boost is probably a good discussion point with your child. Tomorrow's will be a video about 9/11 because of the anniversary of that devastating day. It is called Freedom Day, and we will remember it in an appropriate way here at school. If you wish to preview the video so you can discuss it with your child, you can watch it below.
