So STEMulicious! I love this poster! Everything we are and all we want to be at Summit!
I just want to remind everyone that the first few weeks of the school year have a slower pace. We focus on the routines and expectations which slows us down because we are always reviewing and reminding until the wanted behaviors are learned. Transition times between activities are slow and noisy, which eats time away. Some of the material may seem too easy for particular children, but it is difficult to differentiate when the routines have not been mastered. I have added some information about our Foundations and Fusion times, but the pages are still works in progress. I wanted to make sure that what I could get ready, you had, even if its not pretty :) Please look at some of the information for the Daily 5 and the math programs we are using (we have not received the math series Investigations yet).
The students have been writing in their agendas for 3 days now. The top portion gives topics and sometimes worksheets that we are doing in class. This is written in pencil. The bottom part is written in colored pencil and it is the homework. Our homework this week has been to read 20 minutes and log it on the reading log sheet, and to practice the math facts given to them in class that day. They practice for any amount of time, but need to log the minutes on their "Minute Math Log" sheet. Both logs have directions on them for you. The math facts are based on the math program that I use called "Mastering Math Facts". Look for details on it that I will begin adding to the Math section of this website.
Please be sure to sign the Daily Agenda every night. This notifies me that you have seen today's agenda, are aware of the homework, can verify that your child completed the homework, and have seen any notes that I may have included. I will also check the agenda every day and initial the bottom. Welcome to our site! Thank you so much for checking this out! We are off to a great start this year. We are already learning the expectations and getting used to the routines. I know that as parents, you will need time to become acquainted with the same things, so I hope you will use this as the ultimate guide to everything you need to know about our class. I will be updating and adding all the time as well as posting on this very Blog. Please let me know if you feel something should be on here that I haven't gotten to yet. There is so much to do that I am having problems prioritizing! I look forward to working with you throughout the year.
